My daughter plays flute and saxophone in a local jazz group consisting of other Malibu High School musicians. The Malibu Jazzmaster Funkadelic is led and mentored by my good friend, Steve Cole, who in addition to his job as an emergency room physician is a talented trumpet and piano player and a true “jazzhead”. Steve writes all of the charts for the band and provides music stands, chairs, amps, keyboard, etc. whenever the group plays at local charitable events. At this event, Bill Bixler, head of the instrumental music department at Malibu High School and Louis Cole (www.youtube.com/louiscolemusic) sat in on alto sax and drums, respectively. These guys can swing.

An art director friend gave me the opportunity to contribute to a wall calendar for an aerospace company. The theme was “Flight”. My somewhat willing model was my very mellow cat, Jake. We set up a platform topped with a soft pad outdoors and my assistant dropped Jake many times from a height of about 3 feet while I shot against the sky.

Note: No felines were harmed in the making of this photograph.
